The other day I posted about how busy I have been, and I didn’t have any pictures of the custom order baby blanket I was making. Well, it’s finished and it’s off to the customer Tuesday Morning!
I really enjoy doing filet crochet. It’s easy to do, but with just enough stitch counting to keep it from being mind numbing! For those of you who knit or crochet, you understand what I mean. I really hate to do patterns that are extremely simple because my mind will wander and I end up making more mistakes than with a more difficult project.
This pattern is one of my own and I have the blanket in my shop as a custom order item. The customer can choose what color they would like the blanket made in.
Have you ever finished a project for someone and checked it over once it is all finished and find a mistake? I did with this order! I was taking some pictures and realized I never finished the last few rows before I did the edging! UGH! 😥 Well, the mistake was easily rectified by removing the edging from the top and finishing the missing rows. I then remade the edging and tada! A finished baby blanket!
Well, I must get back to work! I have another order to fulfill! Leave a comment and tell me what you think of filet crochet.
To recap August, as you may know, I have moved my website from Etsy.com to a hosted site. I still intend to keep my original Etsy shop. This move gave me more control over my site and my online store. Of course, the move came with a few headaches, of which I documented in my post New Site is up and Running. Over the last few weeks I have been tweaking settings, updating product listings, a few special product sales and fixing small errors. Overall, everything has smoothed out and is working pretty well.
In between all of this, we had to deal with Hurricane Harvey. I live about two miles north of San Antonio and everyone from here to the Gulf Coast was told to prepare for the worst. Well, I am so very thankful that we were spared from the brunt of the storm. It missed us by just 40 miles! My heart goes out to all who have been so severely affected and we continue to pray for them.
What’s New on the Site?
The main new item on the site is a new blog series titled; Crochet – How to Begin. This is a series of posts to help those who are interested in learning to crochet. We will talk about how to get started, what supplies to get and where to purchase them, reading yarn labels, and finally, starting the first project. I am currently writing part three, the first project. I am also going to make a few videos to go along with this series. The link above is the main page where all the lessons will be posted. If you are interested, check it out. This is a free tutorial for anyone.
I am also going to list more items in my shop that I haven’t had the time to write up yet. I hope to get to these items over the next couple of weeks.
What have I Been Working On?
I have had a few made-to-order purchases that have also kept me busy! I have made a couple of the Mouse Hats, a Christening Gown and I am currently making a baby blanket for a customer. Here are some pictures of the Christening Gown:
I have finally migrated my WordPress blog and Etsy Shop to our new hosting provider, Bluehost.com!
Anyone who has ever dealt with websites before knows that anything you do will never be easy! I have a great deal of experience in web development and computer programming and all that experience doesn’t guarantee a smooth ride! All experience will do is help you fix all the issues that arise. Thankfully I was able to put my experience to good use for a change getting my new site up and running!
Finding a hosting provider was not difficult at all for me. I have had hosted sites on and off for a number of years so I knew what I needed. Then I needed to redirect my domain name to Blue Host, which should have been a piece of cake! Well, I registered my domain with Etsy (that was a big mistake!) so I could have a separate site for my Etsy Shop. At the time it seemed like a great plan until I discovered Etsy has no idea of what they are doing with their “Pattern” sites! I was able to finally get my domain and TRANSFERRED it to a new domain manager, Hover.
Let’s skip ahead to the point my domain name and hosting provider are all set up and I’m ready to move my blog over. As you can already guess, that didn’t work out well either! I should correct myself, I exported my entire blog to a file through WordPress and imported that file into my new site with WordPress with NO issues. At least it appeared that way until I looked at the blog. All my images were missing! The system stated it couldn’t find the files on the remote location. Oh well, there is nothing I can do but just fix it.
I ended up having to upload all the images and then reattached them to each posting one by one. At this time I am still attaching the photos to the older posts.
Now I have finally found the time to write this first posting since this adventure began!
The site is looking pretty good, the blog is running well and so is my new Web Shop! It’s really great to have everything in one place which makes my job a lot easier. Stop by, have a look around and maybe you’ll find an item or two you like in the shop! CILcreations.com
Looking forward to everyone coming over and letting me know what they think!
Lately I have been working on a new baby blanket pattern and I have finally finished it! I had started and stopped working on it a number of times due to other projects that needed more attention. This is the finished product and the pattern will be available soon!
This is actually a very simple pattern using double crochet stitches in alternating V-Stitch and Cluster stitches. The border around the blanket is also done in double crochet with Pico stitches to create the peaks. The end result is a beautiful blanket that is a perfect size for a newborn; 29″ x 31″ (74 cm by 79 cm)! I do have this listed in my Shop for sale and I also will take custom orders in any color(s) you choose. This is a perfect item to have on hand for a baby shower gift!
I also have completed a custom order for one of the elephant plush toys done in the Alabama Tide colors! Here are some pics of the item showing some of the progress and the finished product:
If you are interested in the pattern for the elephant toy, you can download it for free from Willow Yarns.
